Edge connector

    n. A connector formed by cutting the edge of a PCB into a rectangular shape, etching copper connection tabs on the rectangle, and plating these with gold to increase corrosion immunity and reduce resistance. Edge connectors are used in many systems with a backplane. Each PCB plugs into connectors on the backplane using their edge connectors (VME is a notable exception: high-density right-angle connectors are used instead of edge connectors to achieve a higher pin count).
