    1. n. The basic component of combinatorial circuits. Short for logic gate. Gates include ANDs, ORs, XORs, and NOTs, plus a number of variants. With enough gates, it’s possible to build any logic device—from a flip-flop to a computer.

    2. n. One of a field effect transistor’s three terminals. The electric field on the gate modulates the current flow from source to drain.
