    (palm oh ess) N. An operating system developed for use in the Palm series of personal digital
    assistants but now used in some other types of systems as well. PalmOS is actually more of an API than an OS. In fact, the earliest release was a set of libraries running on top of a small commercial RTOS (Kadak’s AMX). Today, PalmOS is used in some hybrid PDA/cell phones and devices like barcode readers from Symbol, among other things. It can usually be recognized by the unique look and feel of its GUI.
