n. A priority assignment algorithm for use with a real-time operating system that uses fixed-priority preemptive scheduling. Abbreviated RMA. RMA is a technique for setting the priorities of each thread relative to the others. The periods of the thread are calculated and compared; the shorter the period of a thread, the higher its assigned priority (hence: “rate” monotonic). RMA is the optimal fixed-priority scheduling algorithm. Only dynamic-priority scheduling can achieve higher CPU utilization without missed deadlines.
