The time constant is where τ is the time to charge to 63.2%, R is the resistance in ohms, and C is the capacitance in farads. After τ seconds elapse, the capacitor is at 63.2% of the applied voltage; after another τ seconds, it charges another 63.2% of the difference between the capacitor’s voltage at τ and the applied voltage.
