    N. A type of logic gate input that exhibits hysteresis. A gate with a Schmitt trigger input flips its output state only when the input exceeds some specified level; when the input falls back to that level, the gate does not flip back to the previous state. Instead, the input must fall to a level lower than that which set the original transition. The use of a Schmitt trigger increases an input’s noise immunity.
