    (as letters) abbr. A suite of networking protocols encompassing the data link, network, and transport layers of the OSI reference stack. Higherlayer protocols and applications, such as FTP, HTTP, NFS, and telnet, run on top of the TCP/IP stack. USAGE: When the term TCP/IP is used, the inclusion of UDP support is assumed. When UDP/IP is used, TCP (and any higher layer software dependent upon it) is assumed excluded.
